COURSE MAINTENANCE
- We continue to cut all grass areas where needed.
- The fallen leaves are being picked up using the gorrila machine, which helps to reduce any accumulation of leaves and debris.
- We are considering draining the back of the 11th green, as it is proving very difficult to walk from the green to the 12th tee with a trolley. The repairs should help alleviate some of the wetness, and reduce damage to the course.
- Once leaf collection has finished, we hope to start work on the 16th yellow tee. The plan is to raise the level of the tee using sleepers. The result should be a more level surface off which to tee.
- Darryl (Greens Chairman), has kindly offered to take down the damaged practice net, whilst there are ongoing discussions re replacement.
GREENS MAINTENANCE
- The plan is to verti drain the greens on NOV 25th. The process is like pushing a fork into the ground and rocking it backwards. This creates channels for water to drain through more efficiently in the winter months. Temporary greens will be in use for the day.
- So far, the greens have coped well with the constant rainfall with no need for temporary greens. This bodes well for extending play on the main greens over winter.
- We have increased the level of cut on the greens for the winter months, which helps to improve their resilience, and hopefully extend the period of play.
- The verti draining will result in a temporary ‘lift’ of the greens surface, creating a soft feel for about 2 weeks. They will return to a more firm feel after this. Drainage should be improved in the long term.
FUSARIUM UPDATE
- We have had a few outbreaks of the disease, but thankfully these have been limited to the collars of the greens. This confirms the effectiveness of proactive spraying of the body of the greens.
- We will continue to spray the greens when needed, up to the new year ( when traditionally the risk of the disease lessens.)
- PLEASE NOTE! the spraying is weather dependant, and I do hope to give you as much warning as possible, but it might only be 24hrs.
- I very much appreciate your understanding and patience, in the hope that we will not experience a big outbreak like last year by following this plan of spraying.
THANK YOU
- I will never get tired of saying thank you to the many volunteers who help to maintain the course. Their help is invaluable.
- I am always thankful to my team who provide daily support to me. Thank you Brendan, Nate, Steve and Ian.
