30th April 2024 – Golf Update
SPRING IS HERE!
– After the worst Winter ever we are now ready to give the Golf season the Green light!
– The temperatures are on the way up, there is no standing water on the course and the striped fairways and semi rough are looking great! We are back on all normal Greens after a successful scarify the other week and mats have gone!
– We are still playing lift, clean & place through the green (everywhere within the course except the tee, green, and hazards) until the ball stops picking up mud in the semi rough. Once we are at that point we can start allowing handicaps to come back in play. We will notify you straight away.
– With the weather improving we will naturally see in increase in footfall and its so important to look after your course. Please remember to replace divots, repair your pitchmarks and rake bunkers.
2024 CLUB KNOCKOUTS
– Today we have drawn the 2024 Club knockouts and they are now live on the ClubV1 members hub app and Howdidido.
– Rules are on the app along with the deadlines for each round.
– Unfortunately we cannot add any late entries as it was drawn using an app and everyone was warned about deadlines previously.
– It is etiquette that the person / team on the top of your match draw contacts the other opponent/s. You should offer a choice of four dates at least two of which must be either a Saturday or Sunday.
– Extensions to the deadline date will not be granted and it is recommended that matches are played as early as possible.
– You can submit your result using the members hub app or by writing your result in an email to proshop@newmillsgolfclub.co.uk.
– We now have a list of entrants in the Proshop so players can come and pay the £5 entry per person. This must be by cash before your first game.
WEDNESDAY AND SUNDAY STABLEFORDS ARE BACK!
– From next Wednesday (8th May) our Midweek and Sunday Stablefords will be back!
– Over the last 2 years this competition has had some great success. The competitions can be played anytime throughout the day. These events are open to Men and Women. Played off White and Red tees.
– You just need to book a casual tee time, come and pay your £5 entry fee in the shop and sign into the competition.
– If you need someone to play with the please ask us in the Proshop and we will do our very best to pair you up with other members, or if you see a gap on the tee sheet on BRS feel free to pop your name down.
– Sam will also do the same as last year and sponsor a £100 prize for the order of merit winner at the end of season. The winner will be the player with the best 5 scores from Wednesday & Sunday competitions.
NEW FLEET OF BUGGIES
– This year the Golf Club has upgraded the old petrol buggies to new electric ones. Now the course is drying out, over the next couple of days we should be able to start renting out our new fleet. We have 6 available to rent and they must be booked in the Proshop.
– Members 18 holes : £15
– Members 9 holes : £10
– Visitors : £30
OPENING MEDAL NOW ON 11TH MAY
– The decision has been made to swap the Opening Medal with Stableford 3. Therefore this Saturday will be Stableford 3 and the following Saturday will be Opening Medal.
– This gives us just 1 more week so the course can recover and we can play Opening Medal in Handicap qualifying conditions.
– It looks like this weekend will be placing through the green again with hope to remove this rule the following week.
– We really appreciate your patience with all the fixture amendments we have had to make this year however the weather this winter has been out of our control.

Ladies Spring Meeting 2024 – Patricia Johnson Trophy
The Ladies’ Section held their Spring Meeting, a 13 hole Stableford, on Wednesday 24th April, after a delay of two weeks because of the wet weather and course conditions. Fortunately, the sun shone for some of the time and the course was beginning to dry out, so playing conditions had improved.
The trophy was won for the second year running by Gilly Sewell with 30 points. Second were Jenny Forshaw and Helen Hodkinson who scored 22 points.

24th April 2024 – Seniors Derek Horsey Charity Competition
After the weather forced us to delay the Derek Horsey Charity Competition, we finally managed to get it done today (24th April). The event was played as a 13 hole Stableford and, despite the recent conditions, we had a very respectable 21 players
All the competition entry fees, plus a couple of generous donations from non-players, are being donated to the local charities, i.e. a total of £140.00.
On the day 4 players managed to achieve an under-par score which, considering holes 10-13 were on temporary greens, is commendable.
The winner, after a card play off, was Clive Garside with 29pts, with runner up Kevin Smith on the same score. The only other two players under par were Pat Walker with 28pts and Paul Crocker on 27pts. The full competition results list can be obtained via the ClubV1 Members Hub
Both Clive and Kevin have agreed to represent New Mills GC in the ongoing Derek Horsey Trophy competition and we wish them well.
23rd April 2024 – Seniors League Final (2023)
The 2023 Manchester & District Seniors League final was eventually played on Tuesday 23rd April 2024 at Blackley Golf Club. The weather for once was good although the course was very wet and the matches had to be played off mats.
The format was four teams, better ball stableford with the best three scores counting. The New Mills team came a very credible third with 121 points behind Dukinfield and Blackley with 128 points. Blackley won on a card count back.
Well done to everyone who represented New Mills last year and to all who took part in the final. Hopefully, we can repeat the success in the League again this year.
