COURSE MAINTENANCE
- We will continue to cut all areas whilst the weather allows.
- We would like to ask all players to rake the bunkers if you play out of them, or if the comp allows, prior to play. You will have noted the damage caused by the rabbits around the bunkers. It is impossible to repair them on a daily basis. Thank you for your understanding.
- We hope to remove the fallen trees following the storms. This will occur as soon as possible.
- You will probably have noticed that the storm blew down the practice net. We are having discussions as to how best to repair it and its future construction.
- We are coming towards the time when winter mats will come into play. We are in the process of preparing the tee mats. A notification will be sent out when this is going to commence. During this period, we will have time to fully repair the main tees.
GREENS MAINTENANCE
- The greens have recovered well following the scarification in September. We will not be doing any more work on the greens until the spring ( except for any necessary fusarium treatment).
- We are pleased that the sub surface thatch on the greens continues to reduce, ensuring better drainage. As a consequence, we have been able to continue to play on the main greens despite the recent rainfall. This will hopefully allow play on the main greens for longer over the winter.
FUSARIUM UPDATE
- We are entering Fusariums favourite time of the year! (i.e. the surface continually wet, high humidity and frequent misty mornings). We have witnessed these conditions in the last 4 days.
- As previously mentioned, our plan is to spray the greens regularly with a fungicide, until Christmas.
- Just recently we noticed an attack of fusarium on the collars of most of the greens. This is an area that we don’t spray, as opposed to the greens that we do spray. This suggests that our regular fungicide treatment is providing the protection we require. This confirms that the £900 is money well spent.
- We continue to monitor the greens daily, and whilst we can’t guarantee there will not be an outbreak of the infection, we hope that if there is an outbreak,we will be able to contain it.
- As previously mentioned, if we do need to spray, we will need to play on temporary greens. This allows the fungicide to dry on the leaf, which is vital for it to be effective. There is only a 21 day prevention window, which is why its important that the fungicide is not walked off before it dries. At £900 a spray, this is not beneficial to the greens or the clubs finances! I will give prior notice as to when the spraying will be done.
