The Ladies Annual PrizegivingThe Ladies Annual Prizegiving took place last Wednesday 16th January at New Mills Golf Club. Although it was a very cold evening there was a good turn-out from the Ladies. Lady Captain, Janet Bowers chaired the meeting and read out her report, as follows, briefly: I thank everyone for their help and support during my year, especially my committee who have worked extremely hard. In particular Margaret Palmer, who's knowledge and advice had been remarkable. She said that she had enjoyed every minute of her year and that although she would miss the 'buzz' she was looking forward to some 'normal' time at home with Ian and her family. |

Santas’ elf does pre Christmas visit!!!The elf was seen on the 5th of December, trying to sneak in to the Ladies Christmas dinner!! We think she was there to reassure Santa that the food and service provided by our hosts Liz and John was as good as ever. In the spirit of the season the ladies decided to let her stay, so that she could reassure her boss that New Mills Golf club is the place to go for your Christmas treat.
As always, the decorations are spectacular, and the elf was told that she might end up on top of the tree if she misbehaved!!! The dinner was lovely, with the general ambience of the club being one of Welcome and Enjoy! There were 39 ladies enjoying the afternoon, with much chatter and laughter echoing around the club. I can’t be sure, but I am positive there were some envious glances from the gentlemen in the clubhouse. (Or maybe that was because the ladies were all dressed in their finery, and looked very different from their normal golf clothed selves!!).
We can truly say that the ladies dinner is becoming one of the highlights of the year, with more and more ladies asking to participate. Social members are welcome to join us, and some do already. Click 'Read more...' for photographs. |

Derbyshire Ladies' County Golf Association Foursomesby Marie-Anne McGibbon, August 2012
It was on the 19th of July that we first tried to play this competition, all fired up for a good game. And then!!! well, the heavens opened half way through, with many a drowned lady golfer bemoaning the ongoing wet summer, and the competition had to be abandoned as the course flooded. The day was somewhat rescued by the clothes on display from LeSports and the jewellery stall by Mandalay Accessories, the cakes in the half way house, plus the wonderful meals by Liz that restored the wilting golfers.
However, returning to the focus of the day, there was much discussion between the Derbyshire dignitaries and the officers of New Mills Golf Club, to re-arrange the competition. The 21st of August was chosen, but could we rely on the weather? |

About the Ladies Section
At New Mills there are lots of opportunities for Ladies to play golf. The Ladies section organise a variety of golf and social events throughout the year – from fun competitions to board competitions, friendly matches, away days and weekends away. We are a small, friendly section and always welcome new members – whether you are new to golf or have played before. We normally play on Wednesday afternoons (and evenings in the summer) however there are also lots of weekend events (both mixed and ladies) – important to those of us who work. |
