The Club's Autumn Quiz Night

A super quiz evening, on Friday 27th November, was enjoyed by club members, their families and friends who competed for a variety of prizes. Colin Banks once again delved into 'Google', 'Wikepedia', 'Encyclopedia Brittanica' and some other obviously obscure sources of information to produce a challenging set of searching questions on a diverse range of subjects ranging from current affairs through to sport, history, geography, science and music. Whilst perhaps not quite as demanding as 'University Challenge' or 'Mastermind' the questions were, at the very least, difficult enough to test the memories and expertise of the 13 teams of four who took part. The winning team was made up of Pete Hewitt, Don Cooper and their wives with a truly remarkable score of 53 points, whilst Chris Marshall's team were just a point behind in second place. A great night was had by all!

Think you could have beaten the winners?

Try these 4 questions from the quiz and maybe enter a team of your own next time! You don't have to be a golfer or even a member of the club to take part.

  1. Which prolific English playwright is associated with the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough and was its artistic director from 1972-2009?
  2. When did Manchester City last win the FA Cup?
  3. What is Bovine Spongiform Encaphalopathy better known as?
  4. Which '70's band enjoyed something of a revival when 'I loved to Boogie' was used in the 2000 movie 'Billy Elliot'?
