![]() TURKEY TROT GOES AT A GALLOPby Steve Price and Tom James
The Seniors' Turkey Trot took place on November 29th with a creditable field of over 40 players and guests. A shotgun (or rather a whistle and klaxon) start on a windy morning got everyone “off the blocks”. Some powerful hitting took place over holes one to thirteen and all players managed to reach the safety of the clubhouse before any squalls happened.
Some exceptional scores were recorded given the force of the wind, which at times reached gale force and made even holding the club still on the putting green demanding and difficult. Eight prizes were awarded to the top teams. The first three places went to Bill Sutton and Harold Tague (35), Trevor Jones and Colin Hulme (35) and Dave Holt and Peter Griffiths (33). Bill Sutton has built a reputation as a very steady player and his consistency obviously paid off under such arduous conditions. Octogenian Harold Tague continues to amaze those who play with him, and seems to go from strength to strength, with both players fully deserving their victory. Praise too to the runners up Trevor Jones and Colin Hulme who only lost top spot on a card play off! Colin was a member at New Mills for many years but now plays his golf at Hazel Grove where he lives. Obviously he remembers the course well, and aided by his reliable partner Trevor, must have been very content with such a fine return to New Mills.
Thanks to Senior's chair Steve Price for organising the event which, as in previous years, was a huge success. |
