Winners of Seniors to Ladies 2011

Seniors invitation to Ladies day 2011 - Triumph over disaster

by Steve Price

The Ladies and Seniors sections of the club play two events in the year. Both provide an opportunity for some very enjoyable social golf with a bit of competitiveness built in. The Seniors section of the club, which welcomes members over the age of 55, is very strong and both sections work hard to provide additional funds and support for the club through the various matches and events they organise throughout the year.

Eleven teams of mixed fourballs began this year’s contest with darkening skies looming over the tees. A new format had been brought in whereby one lady and one gentleman in the team had to score on each of the 13 holes.

The games all teed off without a hitch and some good early golf was played as the teams adapted to the new format.Unfortunately the wind and so called “showers” conspired against the later teams (5 of which decided to walk in before the end). The remaining 6 groups handed in soggy cards which ranged between 50 points and 57 points-admirable under the conditions.

The winning side of Margaret Palmer,Grace Watts,Tom James and Don Cooper each accepted a bottle of wine while the second place team (Beryl Southworth, Pam Boffey, John Reid and Graham Hawkins) received a sleeve of balls each.

Everyone enjoyed the snacks at the 19th and the Senior Chairman thanked all players for their attendance and perseverance. Perhaps the return fixture will be blessed with more good fortune!!

Seniors invitation to Ladies - 2010

There was an excellent turn out for the recent Seniors to Ladies invitation with 9 teams entering the 13 hole quad am competition. Fortunately we had a good day for the event in that it was one of the few days in recent weeks when it didn’t rain! Despite all the recent rain the course was in good condition and played well.

It was a very close competition with just three points separating the top three places. If only that putt that lipped the hole and came out again had gone in!!

The winning team with 58 points was Lady President, Liz Milne, John Abson and Tom James with the runners up spot going to Joyce McClusky, Grace Watts, Tony Jones and Arthur Oliver.
