New Mills Golf Club

You'll have noticed, I'm sure, pictures and works of art of all kinds appearing in shop windows in spring in New Mills 2010 just as they did the previous year. This can mean only one thing - the annual New Mills Arts Festival. The first was hailed as a great success, and such was the response that it effectively spawned what has become New Mills Original. This, as I'm sure you must by now be aware, is a fantastic gallery (and much more – there are many events and courses each month, see http://www.newmillsoriginal.co.uk/ for more info) and now forms the epicentre of creative activity in the High Peak.

The culmination of the event this year saw several of the participating artists showing their work and in some cases techniques at a show at New Mills Original on Saturday 27th March.

This year's event was bigger in both stature and reach, with more venues and more artists. New Mills Golf Club is showing work for the first time - a photograph by Tim Hensel, taken on a sunny winter's day in 2008, at the top of Kinder Scout. I used the bright light to throw the rocks in the foreground into silhouette, helping to make the picture more dramatic.

I'm hoping to do some work at the golf club later in the year – recent advances in printing technology mean I can photograph players teeing off, then have their pictures ready to take home with them by the time they return to the club house. Not only that, but in the form of a highly entertaining fictitious golfing magazine cover. This is not only great for the players, but at a charity event can raise money for a good cause.

A percentage donation of all sales is made to the club to pass on to their preferred charity.
