New Mills Golf Club Following the General Committee meeting on 17 February the following was decided: - Margaret Palmer is to be the new Club Secretary and will be assisted by John White
- Richard Phillipson has agreed to continue as Hon. Treasurer and will be assisted by Phil Urmston
- Simon Belt will be Vice Captain for 2011
- Tom James has been co-opted onto the General Committee and will take the minutes of meetings and produce a monthly news sheet for members. He will also continue to be a member of the Marketing and Advertising Committee
- The structure of the management committee will remain the same and will consist of Mr. Captain, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer, plus the two members elected at the AGM, Graham Hadfield and John Read. Both elected representatives will be honouree positions
- Sub-committee structures were re-affirmed as follows:
- Greens Committee: The day-day management of the course will be undertaken by the Head Green keeper who will be supported by Brian Southworth, Les Swann and Mr. President.
- Competitions and Handicaps: These have been merged to allow Simon Belt time to undertake his Vice Captain’s responsibilities. John White and Hugh Jones will make up the rest of this committee.
- House and Social: Alex Mackenzie, Colin Osborn and Marie–Anne McGibbon (co-opted)
- Marketing/Advertising: Tom James, Simon Belt, Graham Hadfield and Carl Cross will form this sub-committee.
- Members should approach any member of these sub-committees for relevant information.
- Bookings for both social and golf events will be co-ordinated by Alex Mackenzie who will liaise closely with the new Seward/Stewardess and the Professional. All events will be publicised on the club’s website and monthly bulletin.
- Mr. President and Graham Hadfield will meet regularly with the Professional to look at ways of actively promoting the club. The Captain and the Professional plan to start visiting local schools.
- Tom James and Graham Hadfield are looking at long term advertising through the ‘Buxton Advertiser’ and free ‘Courier’ newspapers.
- There will be separate clearly designated notice boards in the foyer to direct members towards different events i.e. Social, Competitions, Handicaps, Committee News etc.
- Members are also encouraged to use the club’s website www.newmillsgolfclub.co.uk for up to date information about what is happening at the club. You can see the results of competitions, check your handicap, find out about social events etc. etc.
- Mr. Captain has begun work on revising the constitution to make it more user-friendly. This will be on-going throughout the year.
- Mats are to be used on all mown areas including tees.
- If any members have any old plastic bag tags could they please hand these in at the bar for recycling. They will be re-used for 2011.
- Mike Brennand and Brian Southworth will be looking for volunteers to help with refurbishment of the exterior of the clubhouse in April and May. If you can help please contact Brian or Mike.
- Liz and John will become full time Steward and Stewardess by the beginning of April once their commitments to the ‘Devonshire Arms’ are complete. They’ve already made a big impact and we hope all members will give them their full support.
- Thanks from Richard to all those members who paid their new subs so promptly after the AGM.
- The ‘Murphy’s Marbles’ evening of Celtic music organised by Alan Blakeman in March was a huge success with the clubhouse packed with well over 100 people. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.
- A copy of these outcomes will appear on the club’s website and we’re also looking forward to being able to send all members, with an email address, their own personal copy.
