• The following diary changes should be noted: Sat July 2nd John Hulse Carpets Golf Day Sun July 17th Medal 3 Wilson Bowl (ladies) tee times 12.30pm – 2pm Wed Sept 21st Three Clubs and a Putter (Ladies) Wed Sept 28th Sheila Atkinson All irons (Ladies) Sat Sept 24th Closing Medal (from Oct 8th) to allow work on greens to begin. • Some money has been saved on the Club’s Insurance this year with the same level of cover being maintained. • Bag tags for 2011 should be collected from the Professional • The club has struck a new advertising deal with the ‘Buxton Advertiser’ and ‘High Peak Courier’ free newspaper. An advert will appear each week firstly in one paper and then in the other. Adverts can be changed monthly and a double sized advert can be included twice per year. We have also had a large article and advert in the April/May edition of the free newspaper ‘The Review’. • The course will be open to members of Chevin Golf Club, who are hosting Derbyshire County Week, on Thursday 23rd June. • If you no longer require your locker please contact the Secretary. • Some members still haven’t paid their subscription for 2011. This is inexcusable given the financial pressures on the club. Remember: No Pay No Play! • Returns from food and from the coffee machine are both encouraging. Liz and John excelled on Mothering Sunday. Members are asked to support the club’s social side as much as possible and to support the Steward and Stewardess in their attempt to raise standards of food. • Beer prices are likely to rise as a result of the knock-on effect of the rise in VAT. • Members are reminded to sign in all visitors whether it is for a golf or social event. Please encourage your non-golfing friends to become social members which only costs £5 per year. • Work on the bunkers (weeding and manicuring) will start week beginning April 18th. Anyone who can volunteer is asked to contact Brian Southworth who will organise working parties. The work will begin very early in the morning for health and safety reasons. • We require an additional green keeper to cover sick leave for 3 days a week and some weekend work for a period of six months. If you know of anyone who might be interested please contact Brian Southworth. Training will be provided. • The bolts on some of the sprinklers around the greens have corroded and need replacing. This will cause some inconvenience and GUR areas around those greens affected. • The area between the 2nd green and 3rd tee is to be filled with plastic paving and then be re-seeded. • We’re looking to begin painting and doing some DIY refurbishment to the rendering on the outside of the clubhouse. If you can help please see Mike Brennand or Alec Mackenzie. • Reviews, written by members, of social events will be placed on a notice board near the entrance to the lounge for the benefit of members without computers. • If you can display notices/flyers of any golf or social events at the club or if you know of anyone willing to display them please take copies from the envelope in the foyer. • Some repair work will be undertaken on a worn area of the lounge carpet. • We are having a visit from H and H Classic Car Club of which John, our steward, is a member on the afternoon of Sunday May 22nd. The cars will be displayed on the car park but will be segregated from members’ cars (we don’t want anyone having their old banger mistaken for a classic vehicle!). There should be no inconvenience to members. Please come along and bring family and friends. It’s free and food will be available from the bar (including Sunday lunch). • We’re planning an Open Day on Sunday 19th June designed to attract newcomers (children, teenagers, ladies and gents) to the game whilst at the same time offering a chance for players with some experience of the game to play a complimentary 9 holes. The event will run from 8am until early evening and coincides with Father’s Day which we feel might enable some families to do something a little special on the day. As well as free golf competitions such as putting, chipping, nearest the pin and longest drive we hope to have a musical attraction during the day as well as food. More specific information will follow shortly so watch the notice board. Volunteers to help run some of the activities will be sought. • We’re very concerned about the state of the car park but all we can afford to do at this stage is a short-term improvement. • There will be a golf day for John Hulse Carpets on Saturday June 2nd. This represents a unique opportunity to bring in some substantial revenue and so we have decided to move Medal 3 to Sunday July 17th. This date coincides with the Wilson Bowl Ladies Event which has pm tee times. Gentlemen can enter the John Hulse event as a team. Tee times between 8am and 10am will be available to members who do not wish to enter this event but still wish to play golf. For more details of the John Hulse event see Graham Hadfield. • For your own safety and that of other members you are asked to restrict practice on fairways to only the 13th and 14th fairways as these are the only fairways on the back nine where players on the course can be easily seen. Please DO NOT use the 18th fairway for practice! In addition players practicing on the practice area towards the 13th tee should take great care to ensure their ball does not cross the wall onto the road! • Work will take place on the steps of the trolley shed and other areas where there are steps onto tees to ensure these are safe for members. • A special, very expensive, limited edition putter is to be raffled. The putter has been donated by ex-member Simon Higginbottom, a referee at this year’s Augusta Masters, in memory of another ex member Andy Mulhearn who died of cancer in 2010. Tickets can be bought from the Professional and a special golfing day will be held on May 13th to raise money for East Cheshire Hospice. A bell, with an inscription dedicated to Andy, will be placed on the 10th tee. Please support this venture. See the website and notice board for more details. • Your support is also requested for the bonus ball lottery which raises money for the annual Children’s party. More information will go on the notice board and the website. Please see Colin Osborn for more information. • Tee sponsorship has been very successful this year - returns well up on last year. See Graham Hadfield for more information or if you know of any company or organisation who might be interested in other sponsorship initiatives. • New membership application will be placed on the notice board near the door to the lounge for members to review. Any comments or concerns arising from these should be expressed to any member of the committee.
