Ladies Open Quad AM (Stableford Competition)
July 3rd 2011 Sun, fun and good food - what more could we ask for? Well, good golf, you might say, and this is what we also had (well in the case of some teams). But even then, those who did not play too well, enjoyed the brilliant views on such a glorious day, and were resuscitated by the excellent food and beverages of Liz and John (the stewards). Added to this, there were many attractions to distract the frustrated golfers. Tim Hensel took action photos of the teams, and created their own magazine cover as a souvenir. ‘Sally’ displayed a wonderful collection of handmade glass jewellery, which lightened the weight of a few purses. And if this was not enough, Daily Sports clothing was supplied by Anastasia - and proved very popular.
The whole club rallied round to make the day a great success, with the men taking it in turns to ‘ball spot’ on the 3 difficult holes, and others providing brute force to transport water to the ‘half way house’ and to erect the gazebo to provide shade for the weary golfers. The ladies not playing in the competition, provided support in the half way house, and in providing lots of prizes in the raffle (it needed 2 tables to hold all the prizes). There were many comments on how much the day had been enjoyed, and requests to come back next year. I wish we could guarantee the weather, as Sunday was glorious, and Carl (the professional) and Sam were needed to go round the course with cold drinks to revitalise some of the ladies. The help of those in the pro shop was invaluable, and even more so when an SOS came in from a visiting lady on the 16th hole, whose trolley had broken. Sam quickly provided a replacement, and the lady was very impressed! The prizes were presented by Lady Captain, with the winning score being ‘78’, and 2 teams tied with ’75,’ only decided by a card back 9 playoff. Visiting teams scored very well, and we hope to see them back next year. A HUGE thanks to all who made the day a great success, and we look forward to 2012. |
