Lady Captain's Day by Lady Captain, Marion Harrison

My Lady Captain’s Day was held on Saturday 10th July 2011 at New Mills Golf Club and there were 27 players (including Lady President) in my stableford, full handicap competition and it was good to see Past Captains, Honorary members, Social members, ladies and guests joining us for the afternoon tea at 4.30pm. Avis Proctor our Past Lady Captain of 2010 was able to be with us after her operation and we wished her better health in the future and look forward to her returning to play golf.

Well, what about the weather? Everyone left the tee after a photo shoot on a lovely day, sunny, warm and calm but unfortunately the rain had to dampen things a little just as the halfway house was in session, but all the players managed to make it back at the end of the game, dry.

The halfway house was organised by my husband, Derek, with Pimms and canapés and my son Keith, was photographer for the day, and also assisted my husband at the halfway house, and Helen my friend and daughter-in-law has been a great help and I thank them for their support in making my day a great success! A big thank you goes to Rick Boffey for adapting the photographs so that everyone could view themselves on the TV in the hall. Hope you all enjoyed the viewing!

Mo Harrison came up with the computer results showing that the 1st prize was won by Liz Milne with 36 points, and there was a tie for 2nd place with 33 points, so with a back play-off, Jean Taylor came 2nd with 23 points and Judith Johnson came 3rd with 21 points. Nearest the pin on the 4th was won by Liz Milne with 1’8” and nearest the line on the 13th was won by Mo Harrison with 6 ½” and Liz Milne had the only 2, so I think it was Liz’s day.

I was also given the honour of presenting the trophy and prizes to the winners of the Summer Knockout Mixed competition for 2010, this presentation being a little behind times, but better late than never. The trophy was donated by Janet Bowers and the winners were Grace Watts and Mike Howard. Grace couldn’t be with us through family affairs but Mike thanked the club on behalf of them both.

To top off the day, Liz and John our new steward and stewardess, beautifully served afternoon tea of caesar salad and strawberries and cream with a tray of tea for 48 persons (looked like individual pictures) and I have to thank them for this menu and their staff for their kind attention to detail, most appreciated.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did, and I thanked everyone for attending and hoped they had a safe journey home. I shall cherish the memories of my special day forever as I HAD A FAB DAY.
