Cliff Ardern

Marcliffe Cup

A big thank you to Cliff Arden who over 20 years ago decided to organise a competition for club members aged 55 and over and donated the Marcliffe Cup to be awarded to the winner.

On the 23rd August this year thirty-eight seniors turned out to play for the Marcliffe Cup.

Rockets were fired to signal the start of play and after a short shower the weather turned warm with a little sunshine to bring cheer to the competitors.

Lady Captain's Day by Lady Captain, Marion Harrison

My Lady Captain’s Day was held on Saturday 10th July 2011 at New Mills Golf Club and there were 27 players (including Lady President) in my stableford, full handicap competition and it was good to see Past Captains, Honorary members, Social members, ladies and guests joining us for the afternoon tea at 4.30pm. Avis Proctor our Past Lady Captain of 2010 was able to be with us after her operation and we wished her better health in the future and look forward to her returning to play golf.

Ladies Open Quad AM (Stableford Competition)

July 3rd 2011

Sun, fun and good food - what more could we ask for? Well, good golf, you might say, and this is what we also had (well in the case of some teams).  But even then, those who did not play too well, enjoyed the brilliant views on such a glorious day, and were resuscitated by the excellent food and beverages of Liz and John (the stewards).

Added to this, there were many attractions to distract the frustrated golfers. Tim Hensel took action photos of the teams, and created their own magazine cover as a souvenir. ‘Sally’ displayed a wonderful collection of handmade glass jewellery, which lightened the weight of a few purses. And if this was not enough, Daily Sports clothing was supplied by Anastasia - and proved very popular.

Blooming gorgeous!

May 2011 - Ladies in Bloom

by Marie-Anne McGibbon

Two gnomes sighted on New Mills Golf Course! Where did they come from? And what mischief were they up to?

Well, actually, it was the Lady Captain and Lady Vice Captain with a small entourage, planting up the rockery on the approach to the 1st tee.  The front bed had been beautifully planted by Nigel with the donation of plants by Lady President.

Classic Cars en route

Hare & Hounds Classic Vehicle Club

at New Mills Golf Club, May 2011

The Hare & Hounds Classic Vehicle Club has been going since November 1991 and is open to enthusiasts of all Classic Vehicles, for the enjoyment of classic cars, light commercials and bikes. On Sunday 22 May, the Club run will be through the Derbyshire countryside, finishing at New Mills Golf Club where their members will have their lunch.

This will be a terrific opportunity for members of the Golf Club to have a close look at some Classic Cars - we're expecting some 30-35 cars on the day, which will be parked on the car park by the clubhouse. There's no restrictions on the day, so friends, family and all those interested in seeing some classic cars that have been cherished and maintained to such a high standard are welcome to come and have a look from midday.
