Bollington Brass Band plays at Christmasby Marion Harrison (Lady Captain)
On Sunday 18th December 2011, after a tricky icy journey, driving gingerly up Eaves Knoll Road, the welcome at the golf club was festive, warm and friendly with everyone anticipating a musical evening provided by the Bollington Brass Band – and we certainly were not disappointed. The conductor, Mr Peter Christian, a popular member of New Mills Golf Club was a great compare and kept everyone in a jovial mood with lots of participation from the audience. Carols, picked by the audience were rousingly sung, staff kept the drinks flowing and at the interval, Liz and John our steward and stewardess provided some delightful hot pork sandwiches and chips - and very reasonably priced!. |

Is it a star, a golf ball? No, it's Father Christmas!by Marie-Anne McGibbon The childrens’ Christmas Party was yet again a resounding success, well so the children declared anyway! There was such a wonderful feeling of magic in the clubhouse, with even the ‘Bah Humbug’ adults falling for the absolute faith of the children. There was a great reception for the Reindeer, Sponge Bob Square Pants and a Smurf, all of whom helped to keep the dancing going at the disco. |

The annual New Mills Golf Club Annual Dinner Dance was actually the second one this year as last year's was postponed til March due to December 2010 being snowbound - remember that? This December the weather was OK and a fabulous evening was enjoyed by members and their guests. It was lovely to see everyone in their finery for what turned out to be a night to remember. Members and guests alike were greeted with glasses of Bucks Fizz and Canapies beautifullly made by Liz our Stewardess and served by the attentive waiters and waitresses for the evening. The clubhouse looked fantastic decorated for the Festive Season to follow. |

Ladies Christmas Lunch - December by Marie-Anne McGibbon Yes it is that time of year again, for the lady golfers to have a party! (Actually, they party all through the year, but pretend Christmas is the only one!!)
Once again Liz and John did a wonderful meal, with superb Christmas decorations to set the ambience. As you might imagine, there was plenty of chatter and laughter, and a modicum of alcohol!
To finish the party, Joan Flowers played for us, and there was a rousing (or should I say noisy?) chorus of Christmas carols to see us safely on our way. |

by Steve Price and Tom James The Seniors' Turkey Trot took place on November 29th with a creditable field of over 40 players and guests. A shotgun (or rather a whistle and klaxon) start on a windy morning got everyone “off the blocks”. Some powerful hitting took place over holes one to thirteen and all players managed to reach the safety of the clubhouse before any squalls happened. Some exceptional scores were recorded given the force of the wind, which at times reached gale force and made even holding the club still on the putting green demanding and difficult. Eight prizes were awarded to the top teams. The first three places went to Bill Sutton and Harold Tague (35), Trevor Jones and Colin Hulme (35) and Dave Holt and Peter Griffiths (33). |

Marie-Anne McGibbon reviewsFashion show presented by FIZZ in November A ‘Fizz’ing good night! I cannot believe that it is 8 months since Fizz last displayed their wares to the good ladies of New Mills, and oh how the styles had changed. Back in March the promise of summer was in the air, and the light airy clothes reflected that expectation. On the 30th November the styles were for winter and the festive season, and all at extremely reasonable prices. No one could leave feeling cold, as there was a vast array of colourful and functional scarves/cowls, and some very fashionable ponchos to cover up on the way to the festive party. |
