The Pro's assessment of Hole 16
The most difficult and most spectacular par 3 on the course. With the tee being so elevated the ball seems to spend an eternity in the air, before facing its massive descent. Almost any club in the bag can be used on this hole depending on the wind. The first danger is to clear the heather off the tee, with the second to avoid the out of bounds which surrounds the small but flat green.
Dilworth & Morris's assessment of Hole 16What should be a well judged punt down the hill and onto the green turns grown men into quivering wrecks. There's thick heather and bushes from the tee to the fairway and a field on the left that beckons your ball, but even if you stay focussed and stay clear of those torments, there's a gust of wind coming up the hillside to throw the ball out of bounds on the right. A good tee shot will land or roll onto the green like there was no danger to start with and leave you wondering what the fuss is about - well until you play the hole again that is. The green is deceptively flat as it almost slices in to the hillside and plays tricks with your head.
