Mayors Charity Day - 04 September 2009
The Mayor of the High Peak held a charity fundraising day at New Mills Golf Club on Friday 4th and despite the appalling weather the players sailed on (no pun intended). 22 teams played in the competition after the Lady Mayoress had given a Bucks Fizz reception and a ‘fun’ challenge on the putting green. The winning team was Vechia Italia from Chapel en le Frith, High Peak Borough Council Team took second prize. There were prizes for nearest the pin, ladies and gents and for the putting competition. The usual raffle was held.
On behalf of the committee I would like to say thank you to New Mills Club for their hospitality, Peter and Pat for the superb food and their patience, all the sponsors and the people who helped on the day. The Mayor, due to ill health was unable to attend on the day but was in constant touch by mobile phone. We were able to inform him that we managed to raise approx £1800 This is the second such event and all the monies raised go to local charities – a nice touch was when I got home tired and weary, I had received a postcard from a young girl to whom we had donated money last year which had helped her represent Derbyshire at international Guide camp in New Zealand talking of her experiences. In the press during the week was another young girl we had helped to represent Great Britain at the World Transplant Games, she came home with a clutch of medals. This is what all the hard work is for – so thank you for making it possible. Jacqui Gadd Chairman Mayors Charity (Central) |
