New Mills Golf Club

The club's annual presentation evening took place recently on Friday 20th November and was well supported by members and their families. Prizes were awarded for the various medal events throughout the season together with individual competitions such as the Rigby Trophy, Hibbert Cup, Anderton Bowl and Bramhall Trophy.

Mr. Captain praised the achievements of all the trophy winners and also thanked everyone who had entered the various competitions for their support. He particularly highlighted the success of Captain's weekend which, this year, was opened to 5 day members of the club. The weekend, which was blessed by perfect weather, proved to be a family success with Mr. Captain's son, Gary Hadfield, winning the Captain's Prize.

The Senior's Dinner has been re-arranged for Monday, 25th January. Please arrive at 7pm for the meal at 7:30pm. Jacket and tie is required by gentlemen.

The Senior's AGM and prize giving will take place the following day on Tuesday, 26th January at 4pm. Please make every effort to attend.

The Club's Autumn Quiz Night

A super quiz evening, on Friday 27th November, was enjoyed by club members, their families and friends who competed for a variety of prizes. Colin Banks once again delved into 'Google', 'Wikepedia', 'Encyclopedia Brittanica' and some other obviously obscure sources of information to produce a challenging set of searching questions on a diverse range of subjects ranging from current affairs through to sport, history, geography, science and music. Whilst perhaps not quite as demanding as 'University Challenge' or 'Mastermind' the questions were, at the very least, difficult enough to test the memories and expertise of the 13 teams of four who took part. The winning team was made up of Pete Hewitt, Don Cooper and their wives with a truly remarkable score of 53 points, whilst Chris Marshall's team were just a point behind in second place. A great night was had by all!

An Evening with the Classics.

What a fantastic evening! Over 40 members and their friends enjoyed a tremendous evening of 60's and 70's music played by Stockport based band 'The Classics'. Led by their superb vocalist and incredibly talented lead guitarist, the band took many of the audience back to their mispent youth with superb rendtions by the Shadows, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Swinging Blue Jeans, Conway Twitty, The Stones etc etc. For me, the highlight of the evening was the brilliant performances of some of the classic Shadows numbers.
